The Crush Bonspiel

The Crush Bonspiel is an international bonspiel (Bonspiel = Curling Tournament with Wine). The Crush has been held every Labor-Day weekend since 2006.

Initially the Crush was frequented by a small contingent of mid-westerners and Canadians transplanted or on loan to California from their respective regions. As time went on and curling grew in California and the West, more people found out about this unique Labor Day weekend event. In a sports competition where new curlers can play competitively against seasoned veterans and Olympians, the Crush began to grow - and the world took notice.

Initially it took four to six months to line up a 16 and 24-team bonspiel but for the past two years the Crush has filled up with 40 teams in less than 72 hours. Registration typically begins in April for this August/September event.

The Crush boasts of the “best Arena Curling Ice” in the universe and attracts teams from all over the globe. (Of course the fact that you can go to the ice rink in shorts and a T-shirt, spend a little time tasting wine, or just laying by the pool in 80+ degrees temperature doesn’t hurt.)

Interested in participating? Take a vacation in Northern California and spend a few days curling against some of the best (and some new) curlers on the continent, drink a little wine, see the famed Sierra mountains and visit the Barbary Coast.

The Crush is a great example of grass-roots curling enthusiasm and a real tribute to the game of Curling as grown with California energy and flair. Most importantly everyone you meet at this event is your newest best friend for life. So, come make friends!

Still don’t believe? Bring your team and come here soon, but sign up early!!
